The capital city of Russia, Moscow is a major center for political issues, economic concerns, and also holds great scientific and cultural significance in Russia, and all of Eurasia. Moscow holds the international distinction as being the city that is home to the largest number of billionaires in all of the world, which is often surprising when one considers the economic strife that the city has seen through the years.

The largest city in Russia, and the most populous city in all of Europe, Moscow is an amazing destination that offers rich cultural experiences, amazing history to explore, and so much more.

Situated on the banks of the Moskva River, Moscow is an amazing blend of old world tradition and contemporary elegance. An extensive transit network is just one example of what truly sets Moscow apart as one of the premiere global destinations.

First Business Flights offers only the best in airfare to a number of amazing destinations, including Russia’s Moscow. With exclusive access to some of the lowest rates that are often not available to other ticketing services, First Business Flights can ensure that you get to Moscow in total comfort, and within your budget.

Moscow’s Airports

Moscow boasts an impressive four international airports. Its busiest and largest airport is the Domodedovo International Airport. The other airports are the Sheremetyevo International Airport, Vnukovo International Airport, and Myachkovo Airport. Each airport is readily accessible within the city by taxis, train services, and of course the expansive bus system.

The Domodedovo International Airport is served by a number of domestic and international carriers, and is the hub for Russian-based Transaero. There are a number of comfortable and luxuriously appointed lounges at the airport, including the Domodedovo International Departures Business Lounge. Available to any passengers holding first and business class tickets, the lounge offers great meal services, as well as top notch business facilities to ensure you are able to keep up with your business needs while you are waiting for your flights. There are also showering facilities so that you can feel refreshed between flights, or simply after taking a long flight.

Some of the other premiere lounges include the Austrian Airline Business Lounge, the British Airways Business Lounge, and the Lufthansa Business Lounge.

Getting Around Moscow

Moscow offers an expansive network of transportation, which is what you’d expect from an international city of this caliber. The taxi services can be found on any street of the city, and are generally considered to be one of the better modes of transportation for quick trips in and around the city. Taxis are affordable, but be sure to first agree to your rate with your taxi driver before you get into the vehicle as it is very rare to find one that uses a meter. Your hotel is also a good source of finding the most reliable taxi services, so be sure to ask for help getting one if you are struggling with your Russian.

The bus and train services within Moscow do not always run on time, but if you have some flexibility with your schedule then it can be an affordable way to get around the city. There are also a number of services that will take you outside of the city limits, which can be great if you are looking to explore some more of the city and its surroundings.

Renting a car for your time in Moscow is not really needed, as the public transportation system is considered to be adequate. However if you do plan on spending time exploring outside of Moscow, then you’ll find a car to be somewhat more reliable for your journey. Getting a car with a driver is also an option, and might be better if your Russian skills are not sufficient to help you read the signs that are often largely and exclusively in Russian.

There are also some ferries and cruise services that will allow you to explore the waterways that are sprinkled through Moscow.

The Moscow Metro is considered to be the most efficient and budget-friendly method of getting around the city. The metro system is typically very reliable and it is rare for them to run late. It can get quite crowded during rush hour, with commuters, but is still a great way to get where you need to be, in and around the city.

What to do in Moscow

business class tickets to Moscow

There is so much to see and do in Moscow, it can often prove to be overwhelming when you consider all of the attractions that may hold some interest for you. The things that you do enjoy in Moscow will largely depend on your interests, and whether or not you are interested in the arts, culture, food, history, and so on.

Start with a bit of retail therapy at two of the largest shopping centers in Moscow. GUM and TSUM offer amazing architecture, as well as plenty of shopping opportunities that include designer labels like Burberry and Moschino. These shopping malls are not necessarily the best places to find bargains, but they are definitely an experience that no one should miss. Unwind with some great food, enjoy some window shopping, and simply appreciate the grandeur of these two shopping malls.

Get some fresh air and visit Patriarshy Prudiy. This historically-infused square-shaped pond is an authentic experience that should be missed. Take some time to walk around the beautiful pond, and explore the sculpture garden. This is a little piece of Moscow that is often skipped, but truly shouldn’t be. Patriarshy Prudiy freezes over in winter, and is a great place for some ice skating.

35MM is a must-see spot for film aficionados. Located at the corner of the Garden Ring and Pokrovka Ulitsa, this celebrated theatre offers a number of foreign and domestic films. The theatre may not be the top of the line in comparison to American theaters, but it is still an experience that should be had.

To enjoy some of the most breathtaking views of the city, be sure to go to the 34th floor of the Swiss Otel. The City Space Bar and Lounge offers great food, and of course unrivaled views of Moscow. Right next door is the House of Music, where you’ll be able to experience some of the highest caliber classical music in all of the country, and perhaps in the world.

Moscow is awash with dance theatres and opportunities to appreciate ballet or classical music. Be sure to take in at least one show, where you are sure to be treated to some of the most talented performances that you’ll find across the globe.

Must-See Moscow Landmarks

There is no must-see Moscow landmark more important to include on your list than the Moscow Kremlin. This internationally recognized former fortress is now the seat and official home of the Russian President. Whether you are appreciating the Kremlin during the day, or seeing it light up beautifully at night, you won’t be sorry that you took the time to appreciate this world heritage site.

To surround yourself with some more of Russia’s history, be sure to visit the Red Square. This famous cobbled landmark dates back to the 15th century and is flanked by some of most famous attractions in Moscow. Along one side is the eastern side of the Kremlin, along with the GUM shopping mall, and of course Russian’s National Historical Museum.

Even if you don’t take in a ballet or operatic performance at the Bolshoy Theatre, it is still worth a visit to simply appreciate what makes this landmark so impressive. But it would be well worth your time to take in a performance, as the Bolshoy is home to some of the best performers in the world.

Some other must-see items on your list should be the Tretyakov Gallery, which is home to the largest collection of Russian art, as well as the Kuskovo Estate, which is filled with some amazing history and stunning architecture.
